Jesus said that everyone who sins is a slave of sin, but that truth can set you free.
Are you struggling with an addiction - maybe porn, or alcohol or drugs? Maybe you have an emotional burden you just can't seem to let go of like anger/rage, depression, anxiety/self-consciousness, or co-dependency? Most of us have something – some “hurt, hang-up, or habit,” as John Baker puts it – that is preventing us from experiencing joy, love, and hope, and which is keeping us from achieving our best potential. In the worst cases, we become slaves to that thing.
Recovery is the journey that we take up out of the dead-end where our pain has taken us toward a brighter future. The only requirement for taking that journey is to start walking.
12/6/2008 Update: Scott Lee is hosting a men's recovery group at First Free each Monday night from 7:30-9:30pm. The group is going through the Celebrate Recovery "step study" guides by John Baker of Saddleback Church; cost for materials is $20; Newcomers are now welcome, but we anticipate the group will close in Jan as we get deeper into the material. Please call Scott if you want to attend; contact info below.
It is our hope that new leaders will emerge who want to expand this ministry - to serve women in need as well as facilitate a larger "open" group session with worship and sharing and community-building. If you are interested in learning more or signing up - either to attend or to help serve in some capacity - then please e-mail Scott Lee today, or call him at 773.458.3612.
