Parable Interview - Scott Cupper
Wenda Shereos
Worship Arts Director
Scott Cupper is a member of Parable and director of this year's Red Ink Production. This is a transcript of an interview he gave Worship Arts Director, Wenda Shereos in 2004.

Wenda Shereos: So Scott, tell us about yourself - where you grew up, went to school.

Scott Cupper: I grew up in Harrisburg, PA.  Went to college for music (French horn) at Indiana University where I discovered acting was my real love.  So I graduated and moved to Chicago to try my hand at it here.

Wenda: What productions have you been in outside of First Free?

Scott: I acted in high school, then in college.  In Chicago, I have acted in The Dastardly Ficus and Other Comedic Tales of Woe and Misery.  It was produced by The Strange Tree Group, a theatre company I'm a part of.  We'll be doing more things.  Keep an eye out.

Wenda: Where are you working these days?

Scott:  I earn my keep by working at Jewish Family and Community Service (a non-profit counseling organization).  I do clerical work there.  I hope someday to do full-time what I do with my free-time: act.

Wenda: What do you like to do to unwind?

Scott: For better or for worse I am rarely in my house without music playing somewhere.  Movies are always a passion of mine.  Running and writing move freely between agony and ecstasy but I try to remain consistent in their practice.  Of course, friends whom I never tire of making laugh and them making me laugh.  And if I'm feeling quiet, it's really nice to have a book there.

Wenda: You’ve been coming to First Free on and off for about a year and joined Parable last Fall. What’s been good about getting together with this group each week?

Scott:  Genuine Community-It is always so refreshing to find an oasis of strong Christians who believe in art in all its forms as a means of communicating our faith and our God.

Wenda: Where is God currently stretching you in your faith?

Scott: "Grant me a willing spirit to sustain me."-Psalm 51:12b.  He is currently granting me a willing spirit, revealing to me how good His will and law are and showing me that the perseverance and strength it takes to stay with Him are possible through Him.

Wenda: How about a favorite name or characteristic of God?

Scott: "I am the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end."  This pretty much sums it up.  There is nothing before or after God.  He encompasses everything.

Wenda: Any other thoughts?

Scott: Just 'cause you feel it, doesn't mean it's there --Radiohead, "There There"
